Salute to the Majestic Malai a Skal Skipper

Tourism Thailand salutes Khun Malai

His Tourism journey spands more than 50 years.

Mr. Malai Sakolviphak started his career with Pan American World Airways on July 1, 1949. There were about 9 international airlines operating to/from Bangkok at that time. He worked through various departments, until the last position as Director for Thailand, Laos and Myanmar from 1982 to 1985.

When Pan Am sold its transpacific route, United Airlines offered him the position of General Manager from 1986 to 1992. After that, he joined the Pacific Leisure Group Head Office in Bangkok as Senior Executive Director from 1993 to 2009.

During the above periods, Mr. Malai joined several travel & tourism organizations, and was elected as member of the Executive Committee, such as:

- Airlines Club of Thailand (Past President and Honorary Life Member)
- Association of Thai Travel Agents (Executive Director for 1 year)
- Thailand PATA Chapter (Chairman of the Executive Board for 2 years)
- World Airlines Club Association (Past President and Member of Honour)

Skal Club of Bangkok: From 1971, was elected President and Honorary Member.
Skal National Committee for Thailand: From 1980, appointed as International  Councilor for Thailand, and elected as President on several occasions.

International Skal Council: From 1982 to 1984, served as Vice President of the Council, and was presented with Skal International Order of Merit. Skal Asian Area Committee: From 1992 to 1995, served as Director Communications & Public Relations.

He as presented the title of “Honorary Asian Area President” in 2006. 

 Skal International Functions: Coordinator for the 17th and 27th Asian Skal Assembly at Chiangmai and Phuket, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 57th Skal World Congress at Bangkok in 1996, and for the 67th Skal World Congress at Pattaya in 2006.

Mr. Malai has submitted his resignation from the Executive Committee of Skal Club of Bangkok and Skal National Committee for Thailand for health reasons.

Skal is the largest and oldest Association of Hospitality in the World.
