The jungle also awaits wayward shots, but there are some truly fantastic and unforgettable holes including the 3rd and 6th, whilst the 17th, requires a tee shot from an elevated tee through a tree canopy to the waiting green below.

Santiburi Chiang Rai Country Club – Chiang Rai

6,266 Metres, Par 72
Brilliantly designed to offer low-handicappers the chance to excel, whilst offering high-handicappers a safer alternative, it is renowned for its beautiful lakes, mature trees and lush fairways. There are not many golf destinations in the world where, on arrival your golf clubs are carried from your car and re appear on your pull cart or Buggy with a Thai girl smiling and giving you the courtesy “wai” (hello).

Then, when you have the inevitable 5th or 8th bad shot/s and that ignite the flame of rage you instinctively pan for far away places to jettison your club something unusual happens......



From the corner of eye, the (magpie eye) you catch a glimpse of that quite un assuming bashful smile of your caddy and on stronger contact her head bows as her arms rise and extend to offer you a bottle of water and you begin to hear soft humble tones of “jai yen yen”.


Of course this never happen to me but I’ve heard of this tale many a time!

You can’t help but feel admiration for the caddies confidence in your hidden talents!
There is something special about their optimism and that feeling of Royalty having someone give you yardages to the pin, telling you where trouble lies, and advising which way the putts will turn.

You never get thirsty when golfing or tired of waiting for the beverage. During your round there are refreshments stands ever 3 holes full of snacks and beverages to keep you going.


After the game is finished the culture of Royalty continues. Thai club houses “a castle” it’s what every lottery winner deserves yet anyone can afford, the facilities, from saunas and spas to foot and body massages. Thailand golf club house dining is inexpensive and cater for all kinds of appetites.


Golf in Thailand is designed to be a whole day affair. Start with a warm-up on the grass driving, play 9 holes, (some stop after 9 have a shower then lunch and continue the back nine after lunch), take a post-game shower, and finish the day off with a massage meal, and drinks.


I don’t understand people rushing around during their game, putting their shoes on in the car park and rushing off, golf is a relaxing and social game (at least it was developed to be); so enjoy the round and the golf club facilities when golfing in Thailand.


The Weather
The weather is conducive to good golf all year with the temperatures around 25-30 degrees centigrade you can see why Thailand golf courses are full of golfers all year round in Thailand. You can travel to Thailand anytime and get a game in to beat the cold weather home in Australia. If you prefer a cooler temperature, then golf in Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai where the golf courses are less crowded, less expensive, and the temperature rarely gets above 25 degrees centigrade.


The Value
While golf in Australia can be inexpensive on the smaller public courses, to get onto the top 20 Australian golf courses can cost up to A$350 for a round, (no caddy and cart in this price!).


You can play at any number of Thailand PGA venues (all top 20 golf courses in Thailand) with a caddy and cart for less than A$100 (and this includes a charming caddie and cart). To top it all off you will have service more akin to a 5 star hotel than any golf course in Australia. Now that is what I call great value!


I’m a big fan of playing the best courses, doesn’t matter where I go, so if I’m looking for a great value golf holiday including play some top PGA championship courses, then Thailand is the destination. Golf holidays in Thailand even rivals going away for a week in Australia, especially when you compare the service and quality of the courses, factor in costs such as car hire, food, beverages, and lodging . Throw in some great food, fantastic shopping, daily massages and spas and you even will get your non-golfing partner or spouse wanting to come along.

No Jungle Jitters at Red Mountain Golf Course Thailand

The beautiful course winds through the hills of scenic Phuket, 6900 yards challenge golfers in the most elegant of settings. Exquisitely manicured greens and fairways, dramatic elevation changes surrounded by the island's lush foliage await golfers on their next trip to Phuket. Designed Jon Morrow and co-designer Al Tikkanen, have created a challenging, rewarding and elegant course on Thailand's famed island.

 

We set forth in 2 flights, tee off around12.10 (its much better to start in the heat of the day and finish in the cool of the evening).

 

Many challenges around the course and definitely worth the visit, some say the price is steep, perhaps fair comment if a local but if you are visiting once a year "who cares" it's about the challenge and the memories.

by far the best golf course i have ever played (possibly will play) it has amazing views from all parts and a couple of incredible holes. we had 6 excellent caddies to show us the way and if you are lucky enough to birdie a hole or two you may even score a cheeky kiss on the cheek. disregard the price as it is well worth an awesome afternoon out with the boys!!

Situated only 15 minutes from popular Patong Beach resort in Phuket Island .. it will work, for the true golfiens it's engrossing and consuming... "I'lllllllll beeeee back"

Now I’ve had my “hit” I’m smiling and keen to share the wellness. I recently visited Bumrungrad International seeking an audience with Dr. Golf aka Dr. Dr Nanthadej

In fine Thai style I was greeted by Khun Palmy, Public Relations Coordinator. By chance we also meet with Khun Siti Survo, Expat Marketing Executive for brief chat about the recent Expat expo at the Hospital. Details of that event are covered in another media article at this link.

Khun Palmy kindly provided a brief tour of the hospital (5 star hotel). The more we toured the more I was questioning the theme of a Hospital. There is a soft harmony about the place, it has that “vibe” thing we talk about when we become attracted to the place and feel at ease.

They, the genius behind the scenes have created a culture that is very special, the U.S. Management team have infused their intel with the smiles of Thai to create a truly remarkable environment.

Our tour lasted for about 30 mins ( I could have just sat down somewhere and enjoyed the passing smiles for the afternoon) we made our way to orthopaedic section, it’s Dr. Golf’s other home.

I should add that I (like most people) don’t like hospitals as a rule, but Bumrungrad is a worthy exception.

Dr. Nanthadej (Dr. Golf) was quick to receive me in the waiting room, drats I was just starting to enjoy the surrounds. Khun Palmy escorted me to the Dr. Examination room where I was welcomed by the man and rebuilds broken golfers.

Dr. Nanthadej is well versed at his trade, that was clear, but more he as a passion about his art of wellness and a keen golfer as well so he has prospective.

We shared our common knowledge aspects of golf which lead us to and more intricate elements of golf motor mechanics and what causes those nagging injuries and worse how simple they are to treat but can’t because we don’t have his knowledge “everything is easy once you know how”

I learnt so much in such a short conversation. I could see Dr. Nanthadej was enjoying my attention but the increasing frequency of visitors meant I was running out of time. Khun Palmy showed remarkable patience, I dare say it’s not much fun watching 2 guys gorge themselves on golf swing and muscle ache revelations, nonetheless she was not letting the team down.

Did I mention Dr. N is a keen golfer (keep that in mind if you find yourself in a round of golf, his knowledge of your ailments might be the source of mind games).

We synchronised watches and rationialised we have limited time for an inspection of the golf clinic so I should come back another day. I agreed but noted I’m out of days so t must be next month and then it was decided no it shall be now!

Dr. Golf co ordinated instructions to Khun Palmy and I was led to the elevator while Dr. G delivered instructions to about 10 support staff that were queued and waiting. A few moments later we were across the driveway an entering an auxlliary building. The building is infact the residence facilities for patients (5 start private hotel) , what a great place to house a golf clinic.

The customary Wai received by fine tailored wait staff to the private apartments and through a side door on the ground floor and you enter something that looks like a fitness club.

The unique golfing clinic is well established and very very well appointed. It’s probably just as well the golf clinic is not in the hospital because when you go there it’s hard to get past all the care and smiles. The worst part must be the outpatient section because they know they are suppose to leave, I dare say many contemplate a slip and fall, not to sue but for the addiction of smiles and care.

Now back at the Golf Clinic, as I wondered I was mystified by the various mechanic contraptions. They were neither nor old and dated, more like something from NASA.

The Doctor kindly explained their application and invited me to test (I did ok on the reflex and balance thingo), I really have forgotten the tech terms.

I concluded the array of fancy devices and contraptions would be common place in the worlds leading sporting corporations to ensure the million dollar athletes are fully functional.
